Be a Froot Loop in a Bowl of Cheerios

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about comparison, and how quietly it can influence the way we show up, even in our work.

If you don’t know, I am a co-owner of a home organizing and move management business. I took on the role of communications, which includes creating our social media content.

Because this was all very new to me, I looked at what other businesses were posting and relied on AI to “assist” me. I thought I was creating something original.

Then one day, while scrolling through Facebook, I saw a post that looked very familiar. At first, I thought it was one of ours. But as I began reading, I realized it belonged to someone else.

The graphic looked almost exactly like something I had recently posted.

That was the moment I realized my “original” graphics weren’t original at all. They were mass-produced, AI-generated images that could have belonged to anyone.

The captions may have contained my words, but the graphics didn’t reflect us. And let’s be honest - many people don’t stop long enough to read the caption. Our message was getting lost in a sea of sameness.

One of my favorite life lessons is:

Be a Froot Loop in a bowl of Cheerios.

Yet there I was, being a Cheerio.

Not even a heart-shaped Cheerio or a frosted Cheerio.

Just a bland, round, beige Cheerio.

I was blending in when everything about me was meant to stand out.

The day I came to this realization happened to be an especially busy one. I was out and about, interacting with many different people. Some I had known for years, while others I had just met.

I tend to live by the belief that no one is a stranger, only a friend I haven’t met yet.

Throughout that day, several people commented on my bright light, my radiant energy, my authenticity, and my “realness.”

I don’t believe that was a coincidence.

I believe it was divine timing.

Those words reached me on the exact day I needed to hear them. They reminded me that the qualities people connect with most are the ones that cannot be manufactured.

Authenticity cannot be mass-produced.

And it certainly cannot be AI-generated.

I am a Froot Loop. There is simply no other way to say it.

I own it - and I love it.

I will continue to share my light. I will compliment strangers, hold doors open, introduce myself to people, start conversations, and make connections wherever I go.

That is who I am.

And when I really think about it, isn’t that what most of us are searching for?

Not perfection.
Not another polished version of what everyone else is doing.
Not something created to fit neatly into the crowd.

We want something honest.

We want something human.

We want something real.

Comparison may show us what everyone else is doing, but authenticity reminds us of who we are.

So yes, look around. Learn from others. Allow yourself to be inspired.

But never become so focused on fitting in that you lose the very thing that makes you different.

Be the Froot Loop.

The world already has enough Cheerios.
